It's a good idea to try on several different styles to help eliminate what you don't like and make it an easier decision when you've found the perfect dress for you. It's best not to set your heart on a style until you've tried it on, what a disappointment it will be if it doesn't look right...everyone is different and the models in wedding magazines are usually over 6' tall and look good in anything.
You have been dressing yourself most of your life, so why do you need help choosing the perfect dress for your wedding day? Wedding dresses are normally structured and fit in a totally different way to ordinary dresses. It's not often nowadays that you have the opportunity to wear a long dress and you will be surprised how different they make you look and feel.
A good sales adviser can tell you the style of dress you need to give you the perfect shape, almost as soon as they see you, it takes a few moments longer to discover the exact dress to match your personality.
You can get carried away by the glitz and glamour and forget to look at YOURSELF in the mirror. Does the style suit you? Is the shape right? Does this dress give you the best figure shape? And don't forget to look at the back - this is what most of your guests see.
Here are a few DON'TS:
- Don't try on too many dresses in one day, it's hard to remember what and why you liked them and you may end up confusing yourself.
- Don't take too many people with you, each person will have their own ideas on how they think you should look, or worse still they may want you to have what THEY would want, not what is best for you.
- Don't take young children along with you unless there really is no alternative. It can take a few hours to find your perfect dress and children soon get bored, which could distract you. At A-Z we have a box of toys to keep them amused.
- Don't expect dresses costing hundreds of pounds to be re-produced by dressmakers at a much lower price. A lot goes into making a wedding dress, what happens on the inside is much more important than the finishing touches...this is what makes the difference.
- Don't buy bridal or bridesmaid dresses on the internet unless you are certain of the source. Too many brides have received dresses that have fake labels, are badly made and just do not fit. There is no back up help and you do need expert advice on alterations and accessories etc. There is no substitute for expert help from trained and experienced sales advisers and dress fitters.
